Getting Started with Online Writing an Ebook
To get started sharing your vision can seem daunting but I promise it isn’t. The first thing you’re going to have to do is pick a topic and medium. If you’re telling a story then you’re likely writing a book. If you want to share technical knowledge then maybe you’re going to write a how-to guide. In either case, you’ll want to make sure you have your topic and how you envision the world seeing it decided as early as possible.
Next, you’ll want to create an outline for you to follow. While you may be thinking, “It’s all coming from my head anyways, who needs an outline,” an outline will help keep you on track and finish your project that much quicker!
The next step is to just start writing! This will be your first draft, there’s no pressure to make sure it’s perfect. Just remember that you can’t edit an empty page. Keep dumping the things you want to say onto the page and before long you’ll have a rough draft to get excited about.
The exciting part of this experience unfortunately goes away for a bit now. That’s because the next step is to edit and revise your work. You need to make it a cohesive story or guide now, so read it through as best you can with fresh eyes and see how you can make it better. Don’t stop at once either, you definitely are going to want to have at least two looks at it. You should also try and have someone else look it over too. Remember, you only get one chance to make a good impression on your readers.
Once you’ve got a draft you’re prepared to share with the world, you have to decide how you’re doing that. There are tons of distribution methods, you could even send it out as a PDF. This part is entirely up to you. If you’re choosing a method like Kindle Direct it’s at this point you’re going to want to get it into the right format. These publishing sites often have instructions right on their sites for this part.
All that’s left is to set a price and promote your book. Book promotion can be difficult, but if you stick with it you can make it happen.
Congratulations, you’re on your way to spreading your knowledge to the masses.
